Hello, I’m Jamie Woods.
I am a general solicitor for GBC Law, practising primarily Corporate and Commercial as well as Banking and Real Estate law.
Corporate and Commercial
I assist my Corporate and Commercial clients with: the negotiation and preparation of shareholder agreements and partnership agreements for small and medium sized firms; the buyout of existing shareholders and estate freezes; personnel matters such as employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, confidentiality agreements, non-solicitation agreements, non-competition agreements and averaging agreements; the purchase, sale and renewal of franchises; the purchase, sale and vendor financing of personal property.
Non-profit
I assist my Non-profit clients with: negotiating and drafting the constitution and bylaws of non-profit societies and preparing charitable status applications.
Real Estate
I have experience with: the purchase, sale and refinancing of residential and commercial property, including strata pre-sales, leasehold properties and bare lots; the drafting and review of commercial leases; preparing disclosure documents for developers of strata properties.
Banking
I advise banks, credit unions and private lenders on secured commercial and residential lending matters.
Wills and estates
I prepare probate and administration applications and advise clients on estate matters in general.
About Jamie
I grew up in Burnaby, attended Burnaby South and St Thomas More Collegiate, and obtained a B.A. in Canadian Studies from UBC and a law degree from the University of Victoria. Before joining GBC Law, I worked as a stagiaire in the international commercial arbitration practice group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris, France, articled in the energy group of Macleod Dixon in Calgary and practiced securities law at Blake, Cassels and Graydon in Vancouver.
I stay active in the community by giving Practical Presentations on real estate transactions and on laws applicable to small business. In my spare time, I volunteer with the South Burnaby Neighborhood House, play for a team in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League and read Dr. Seuss books to my infant son.
